Seems like Dell has stuck-up this compared to the early complaints., October 30, 2014

I’m a late-comer to the venue, and this keyboard. I had the mobile keyboard for a bit, before I bought this one, both as a endorsement, and for circumstances where a “tablet experience” is more well-located (but with a keyboard handy, just in case). I’m having none of the problems that others complain about here.
It is better on a flat surface, but I can use it on my lap, if needed.
Mine doesn’t seem to disconnect.
The keys don’t travel a lot, but they do give positive feedback. Much better than the thin (Touch) Surface keyboard. Not as excellent as the Surfaces “Type” keyboard. But if quality typing is vital to you, the Venue “movable” keyboard is better than the best surface keyboard. And the touchpad is better than the ones on the Surface keyboards.
Mine does disable when flipped all of the way back for “tablet mode”.
The magnets are just stiff enough to keep things in place for me, whether it is covering the screen, or using as a tablet stand.
The disappointment for me, was that the screen doesn’t auto rotate with the keyboard attached. It stays in landscape mode, even with the keyboard folded all the way back. Dell doesn’t seem to want to fix that “bug.” They reckon it is a figure. But once I figured that you can rotate the screen with the ctrl-alt-arrow key combo, it’s not a huge deal anymore.
Just hit ctrl-alt-leftArrow before folding back the keyboard and you are in portrait mode. Ctrl-alt-upArrow brings you back to landscape. Aptly arrow and down arrow do what you would expect if you want the screen oriented in those directions, for some reason.

I bought this keyboard when I bought my Venue 11. It has never been my pet as I reckon the back is weak and doesn’t help well. There have been many era where I have had to detach and reattach just to get it to read. But I am finally writing a review because after doing my upgrade to Windows 10 (not sure of causation or correlation on that), the keyboard is no longer recognized at all. It does not serve any purpose at all. I have seen so many bluetooth keyboards for additional tablets that cost a fraction of what this did and they work significantly better than the Dell. I did contact Dell help via web, chat and phone and they were about has caring as the unrecognized keyboard.

I had high hopes for this keyboard/cover. It’s very light and fits well and it has a place to store the stylus. The huge downer for me … the keyboard is virtually unusable as it flexes so it must be used on a flat surface. I couldn’t type using it in my lap. The keystrokes are very small but I expected that from such a thin unit. If the base were made of something stiffer, it could be a winner.
