I reckon I will like it in the near future!, June 23, 2017

I have had this product for less than a month and it is the only reason why I give it a 4 instead of a 5 in view of the fact that I am still getting used to it. The touchscreen aspect is fantastic because it diminishes constraint on my wrist (I needed this because I get wrist pain from using the mouse too much). Also, the audio system is incredible (no need for speakers unless you really want to go balistic on the volume). I did a lot of research before buying it and consulted with systems engineers. In view of the fact that I only need it for Office, basic Internet, and some entertainment, it works fantastic and I learned a Core i3 is enough. Even making a bet works just fine for those who like that. I also learned before buying that it is a discontinued model by Dell (reason is they came up with a similar model that is newer) but I still get the 1 year guarantee plus my engineer friends told me that does NOT matter… only it would be nice if the seller would tell you that so you are not surprised. The screen gives the impression to be larger than it is because of the pad area design (optical illusion) and this is a plus for your eyes. The laptop is quick, has tones of memory room (more than I will ever need) and the pad area is as clean as the first day because it is fingerprint waterproof. Overall, I reckon I will like this product if it keeps working as is and will review in a year or so. Recommended!… do your research before paying more for a core i5 or i7.

After my 7 year ancient Macbook died, I wasn’t about to spend over $1000 again to replace it with a new Mac. The battery guzzling Sierra OS turned me off completely to the line. I chose to go back to PC in view of the fact that I knew they were cheaper.

I knew I wanted an Intel processor but nothing slow like the ancient Celeron. Windows would momentously slow down with it, if not freeze. I didn’t need anything fancy or super quick in view of the fact that I am not a gamer. I just needed a laptop that provided decent alacrity and processing for those puzzle games, to browse, for basic photo editing, interacting on social media, and to watch movies & tv. This one fit the bill.

At under $400 and with a touchscreen which I never had before, I establish it perfect!

The laptop isn’t sleek-looking like Mac but that didn’t matter to me. I could care less what people plotting about my “tech style”. If the laptop works, then that is excellent enough for me.

First, the basics. This comes with an optical drive. For some, that may be ancient fashioned in view of the fact that a thinner and lighter laptop is preferred and a cd/dvd rw just makes it bulky. I remember when the first laptops came out with absolutely nothing, not even a zip-drive! Those were bulky and heavy! This laptop isn’t heavy or bulky. I establish it about the same weight or maybe slightly lighter than my dead Macbook from 2010. This one is much larger due to its widescreen but additional than that, I won’t break a sweat carrying it.

The touchscreen is a nice addition. I never had one in a laptop until now. I was apprehensive about smudgy fingerprints but this laptop appears to be fingerprint waterproof or makes it less irritating than you would see on tablets. You don’t have to push the screen hard but it isn’t too sensitive either. Just enough to let you push to know you are executing onto the aptly area.

What it doesn’t have is a backlit keyboard. I am not bothered by this. I never had one and when I type in the dark, I know if my typing is off when I see a garbled mess on screen. I just place my fingers back on the aptly letters and continue typing.

Windows 10–This comes with the 64bit Home edition. It took a excellent 2 to three hours to update so don’t expect to use this aptly out of the box. You might have moments where you reckon something may be incorrect with your laptop but nothing is, it is just the slow process of updating Windows. After the update and the usual bit of registering, you will doubtless spend the rest of the day uninstalling bloatware.

This comes with a lot of bloatware! The last time I used Windows was in the Vista period. Yes, that came with bloatware but not as much as this one! I don’t need Xbox, I don’t need Candy Crush or a 30-day trial with McAffee. I also noticed ads would pop-up on cellular plans and no wonder in view of the fact that the offers come installed. Additional ads would appear in notifications. All that is very irritating. Some are easily uninstalled via the Control Panel but others have to be uninstalled via the terminal window. You have to be very careful with that so you don’t uninstall or corrupt Windows.

After removing all the unnecessary programs, Windows 10 still slowed down the laptop. It takes a excellent 3 to 4 minutes to restart and to log on. Using the installed programs like Media player with another curriculum like some photo editing will slow it down and freeze it because in the social class, Windows is updating something because it is vulnerable to some virus. Yet, I need windows for Itunes. I don’t browse the web with Windows, therefore I use a free version of a virus scanner.

This laptop with Windows 10 gets a 3 out of 5 stars. BUT…

I installed Ubuntu 16.04. It is like day and night on this laptop. This is the main reason why I chose Dell. Dell makes Linux laptops and I knew it would be compatible. The Intel chip makes Linux simple to install. I have a computer with an AMD processor and Linux was a bit hard to install and some programs became glitchy.

I did install via the optical drive. Again, ancient-fashioned but I didn’t have a USB stick. Installation was painless, Dell makes it simple, Linux has become simpler too!

This laptop is FAST with Linux!!! I am logged onto my laptop in less than a minute. My programs pop up quickly. I can use multiple programs; I listen to music even as editing photos and browsing the web. No problems in freezing up or slowing it down. Updates are quick.

With Linux, this laptop is well worth 5 out of 5 stars!!!

Just to add, I noticed my cursor would skip around and delete what I typed. This I establish irritating especially when trying to insert passwords. I really got locked out of one website for trying so many era. I establish it had to do with the touchpad/trackpad. Typing would somehow make the touchpad reckon you are TAPPING it, making it skip all around the place. What you need to do is go into Settings>Touchpad and…

I needed to replace a 7 year ancient Toshiba and the Dell got decent reviews. This being a model being replaced this year, it had a very excellent price. I made a discovery that the new windows 10 is not compatible with windows 7 so you have to buy a special cable and curriculum made by on of bill gates buddy’s company. also this computer comes loaded with so much Microsoft garbage, I spent nearly two hours removing as much as I could. as delivered this computer was pretty slow compared to my seven year ancient computer. after removing most of the trash, it started working quicker. I am not a fan of windows ten and will doubtless replace it later. none of this is the computer’s fault. the touch screen is a nice figure and I am still learning on this, but so far I am pleased with this buy. I would have given five stars except for all the trash loaded up.I would recommend this computer as long as you are aware of all the trash loaded up.
